In October 2004 the faculty of Rutgers, School of Business-Camden approved a new program, the Business Leader Development Program (BLDP).
The BLDP provides an opportunity for students to participate in and
be rewarded and recognized for their leadership initiative. The BLDP is
not a formulaic program in which a fixed set of activities must be
completed but, rather, offers each student an opportunity to participate
in a range of activities, tailoring the program to his/her own
interests. Completion of the BLDP requires an accumulation of verified
leadership involvement at the time of graduation. One required component
of the BLDP is to enroll in at least one BLDP seminar course. The BLDP
seminar is by application only and counts as a general business elective
fro most majors/concentrations. The seminar is offered each semester,
and its topics are intended to appeal to students with diverse
backgrounds, i.e., students do not need in-depth background in any
particular discipline. Proposed seminar topics for upcoming semesters

Title:
Non Profit Leadership and Management
About the Seminar:
This course will examine the leadership and management of
non-profit organizations, the fastest growing (by employment)
sector of the economy. The course will assess the challenges and
opportunities facing leaders of these organizations from a
variety of perspectives including, economic, social, political,
and legal perspectives and will gain a greater understanding of
the role of these important institutions in our society. The
class readings will include history, economics, law, and policy.
The class will visit several non-profit organizations and meet
and interview leaders of non-profit organizations from several
fields. Class requirements will include reflection papers and an
engaged participation in class discussions and presentations.
About the Professor:
This is a
rare opportunity to take an interesting seminar course from an
instructor that most students don’t get the privilege of working
with directly.

Who Can Apply:
Any SBC student of sophomore standing or higher is eligible to
apply for the seminar, and the 3 credits earned from the seminar
are accepted as a business elective for most majors and
concentrations. A student can take the seminar without
completing any of the other requirements for the BLDP.

Each application must be supported by two reference letters. One
of the references must be from a professor or instructor, the
other from a non-relative (preferably a current or former
employer or supervisor) who can attest to the applicant’s
character, motivation, and/or leadership potential. All
reference letters should be directed to: BLDP Director, School
of Business, Rutgers University, 227 Penn St., Camden, NJ 08102.
Your application will not be considered complete until the two
reference letters have been received.

opportunities available in the School of Business, from which each
individual can select his or her preferred activities by which to excel.
3. Through special recognition for program completion, we offer a
mechanism for showcasing student’s leadership during their time at
Rutgers.
4. With ongoing involvement of area executives and past program
participants, we supply exceptional networking opportunities to
facilitate career opportunities.
