APRIL 2011 Academic Services Announcements

 

Below are important notices relevant to undergraduate business and pre-business students.  It is the students’ responsibility to be informed of current policies.  Questions regarding these notices should be directed to the Academic Services Office (acadsvcs@camden.rutgers.edu).

 

Notable Dates & Deadlines

April 3

Students with 90+ credits earned (seniors) Fall Registration begins, 10:00 pm

April 4

Students with 58+  credits earned (junior and seniors) Fall Registration begins, 10:00 pm

April 5

All Students, Fall Registration begins, 10:00 pm

April 5

Last day to DROP a course with a W grade and without academic penalty.

 

Brown Bag Lunch: Advising & Registration Workshop on March 30th

o Are you a Rutgers-Camden Pre-Business major (006) with 30 or more credits? Do you have questions about which classes you should take and when you should apply to the business school? Are you new to the Business School and want to be sure you are off to a good start?

o If so, bring your lunch along and join us for an informal workshop!  We will host an Advising & Registration Workshop on March 30th from 12:15 pm —1:15pm in BSB 231.

 

May 2011 Graduation Information

o Diploma Applications will be accepted February 1 through March 15 for May 2011 graduates. Applications must be filled out online via the following link: Online Diploma Application.

o Cap, Gown & Other Regalia: The University District Bookstore will sponsor a Graduation Fair in early March. The 2010 fee for graduation attire was: Bachelor - $59.00; this included cap, gown, hood and tassel; the BS hood is gold. This is not rental attire – it is yours to keep. Any purchase after March 31 may incur a $10.00 late fee.

o Commencement will be held on May 19.

 

Pre-Senior Reviews

o Students are strongly encouraged to complete a review of all coursework needed for degree completion two (2) semesters prior to their expected graduation date.

o This process evaluates all work completed and provides a clear record of all outstanding academic requirements needed for graduation.

 

Intra-University (School to School) Transfers for RSBC Admissions

o All students who plan to transfer to a different college within the University must do so using the School-to-School (S2S) intra-university transfer application process.

Scholastic (Academic) Standing

o Any student whose cumulative GPA is below 2.00 is placed on academic probation.

o Students currently on academic probation must meet with an Academic Services staff member—call to schedule an appointment in advance.

o If you have questions or concerns regarding your Academic Standing, please contact the Academic Services Office immediately by calling 856-225-6216.

AREA COORDINATORS Spring 2011

An “Area Coordinator” is similar to a Department Chair and can give you advice on your selection of courses in a particular area. They also can determine eligibility to take upper level courses and can help to identify approved electives in other disciplines.

Internships

 

A BUSINESS INTERNSHIP--A PATH TO POSSIBILITIES!

 

            The best time to start exploring your career path is NOW!  Get a jump start by obtaining an internship in your junior  or senior year at Rutgers in the School of Business. There are many opportunities in all majors in the School of Business. Just start the ball rolling.

 

Take a schedule off of Mr. Haro;'s (internship coordinator) door and call during one of these hours for an appointment or stop by during one of those time blocks.

 

To become a leader is process.  Start now with a postive experience in an internship!

The ANNUAL SPRING JOB FAIR will be held on Wed., April 6th from Noon to 3 pm in the Multipurpose Room of the Campus Center. A variety of employers will be on hand to provide information about their job and internship opportunities.  If you are graduating this May or seeking internships, this is a not to be missed event.  Dress professionally and bring your resumes.  Resume makeovers / critiques will be available  in the lobby of the campus center on April 4th and April 5th from 11:30 am  – 1:30 pm. Summer Aid 2011

 

Summer financial aid applications will be available on April 1st at www.studentaid.rutgers.edu.  Please note that summer aid is limited and paying for summer courses is primarily you and your family’s responsibility. There are three types of federal financial aid available.  Plan early and take advantage of the payment plans also available for summer.  Please review the information at the main financial aid website shown above for additional eligibility requirements.

Rutgers-Camden Learning Center (RCLC) for April 2011

 

The Rutgers-Camden Learning Center will be open for individual course content tutoring and writing assistance for the Spring 2011 term until Friday May 6th. Our tutoring hours are Monday-Thursday 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and Fridays 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Please visit our website at http://learn.camden.rutgers.edu to make an appointment with one of our tutors or writing assistants today.

Writing a Great Research Paper, Jamie Gibbs, RCLC Writing Assistant

The workshop will focus on how to write a successful research paper. The topics covered will include how to effectively research a topic, tips on writing solid introductions and conclusions, a guide on structuring body paragraphs, and how to write cohesive transition sentences.

“But Wikipedia Says It’s Right!”:  Evaluating Resources Critically, Timothy Pure, Learning Specialist

Workshop will focus on how to choose appropriate resources for college-level research, and to critically analyze resources. Participants will also discuss using Google and Wikipedia in college-level courses. To be taught in collaboration with the staff of Robeson library.

Improving Grammar and Writing Mechanics,

This workshop will provide an overview of the proper use of punctuation such as comma use, colons, semi-colons, and the proper way to cite sources in MLA papers. Ways to improve sentence structure will also be covered. These topics include, how to avoid using passive voice, “to be” verbs and how to fix “run-on” sentences.

Stress Management for School and Life, Dr. Robert Ciervo, Director of the RCLC

This workshop will educate students about the different components of stress and how stress can have negative effects on both academic performance and one’s personal life.  Learn the techniques that elite level athletes use to manage stress and enter into a relaxed and focus state to achieve success.

CATCH UP OR GET AHEAD THIS SUMMER!

Take advantage of the summer session to catch up on your schedule to get you back on track toward graduation, to get ahead to graduate even sooner, or to take advantage of special course offerings available only in the summer!  Can't find what you want in the Fall schedule, or were closed out of what you

The School of Business offers over 20 courses this summer, from core courses like Cost Accounting and Management Science or Operations Management to special offerings like Managing Productive Nonprofit Organizations, to unique opportunities such as Principles of Finance online!  With both introductory and advanced level courses to choose from, there is something for everybody.

But it's not just Business courses - choose also from a wide selection of over 200 undergraduate courses to meet your other course needs and interests, from foreign languages including Spanish, French, German and Italian, to general requirements like World Masterpieces and a large selection of Global and Diversity courses.  Use the summer to get those general requirements out of the way so that you can concentrate on your major during the academic year.
