Hi Students:
Hope that your semester is going well. We’re getting down to the wire.
I came to school on the PATCO high speedline a few weeks ago and over heard two students talking about one of their friends. One asked if the friend was busy with his courses, and the other replied, “He’s in Business …. He doesn’t have to study…..”
Folks, we’re not selling courses like French fries and Rutgers School of Business-Camden is not a drive-through. We receive way too many requests for prerequisite overrides as if our courses have no relationship to each other. We are providing Rutgers educational programs that outfit you for valuable internships and careers. All of you should know that you need your senior review at 90 credits, when you are two semesters from graduating so we can catch any problems. All of you should know that all core courses must be completed BEFORE enrolling in Business Policy, yet every semester we receive letters indicating great surprise that this is the case. Amazing! In your jobs, you would be expected to know the policies and rules of your company – why not here?
In my last email, I wrote to you that our random testing found that many of our students are not remembering the basics from Intro to Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Principles of Finance, Principles of Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Management Science, Operations Management, and MIS. Please remember – you will need to use key topics from these courses in our capstone integrative course, Business Policy!! Moreover, you will need to use these in your careers in any major.
We are in the process of developing and posting online support materials to help guide you in reviewing key business topics before you take Business Policy. The faculty also want to recommend that students take courses that “integrate” the various business areas when you have the opportunity. Courses such as entrepreneurship, team consulting, raising capital, corporate restructuring, and multinational business draw on all areas of business and also help you to keep your skills sharp!
Please stop in to see me anytime. My office is BSB 251, just off the Advising area. As Undergraduate Director, I am ready to discuss your concerns, ideas, and suggestions.
Dr. KS
