ACADEMIC SERVICES - September 2007 Official Notices
The Dean’s Office of the School of Business, Camden (SBC, School 52) will list new policies, procedures and/or changes for the benefit of the University community. It is the students’ responsibility to be informed. This effort is designed to make this information available to the broadest possible audience in the widest possible forum available to the campus community. Additionally, this information may appear elsewhere, as a courtesy and for your convenience. Please pay careful attention and make every effort to comply. Official notices will be published in the Gleaner the first week of the month. Questions regarding these notices may be directed to NOTICES@camden.rutgers.edu.
(1) Academic (Scholastic) Standing Any student whose term average is below 2.000 is issued an academic warning. Any student whose cumulative GPA is below 2.00 is placed on academic probation. Any student whose cumulative grade point average does not improve to at least a 2.000 by the end of this semester may be subject to academic dismissal in accordance with the policies in the current College Catalog. Administrative and financial holds are placed on students with warnings and placed on probation, until they have met with the Academic Services Office
(2) Graduation Participation Policy Only students who have successfully completed all graduation requirements will be able to participate in the annual commencement ceremony. This is a return to the long standing graduation SBC policy on commencement.
(3) Change of the Last Day to Withdraw (Drop) a Class The last to withdraw from “drop” a course without academic penalty and receive a “W” grade is Monday, November 12, 2007.
(4) SBC Minors for non-business students All non-business majors who pursue business minors (accounting, finance, human resources, international business, management & marketing) must have a cumulative GPA of 2.500 and obtain the approval of the SBC Academic Services Office. Students must complete and submit an approved SBC Minor Request form to the Registrar’s Office to be processed & have the minor posted on the transcript.
(5) Change in Finance (390) major requirements Effective immediately, students are no longer required to complete Application of Financial Management (390:450). A Finance elective is to be used in the place of Application of Financial Management (390:450).
(6) Intra-University Transfers All students who plan to transfer to a different college within the University must do so using the College to College (C2C) or School to School (S2S) transfer application process. Students, who are completing the final pre-business requirements this semester, should apply now. Please refer to the C2C web page for more information and instructions. http://www.rutgers.edu/collegetocollege
(7) Senior Reviews All students who expect to complete their studies during the spring 08, summer 08 and fall 08 terms of study should schedule a Senior Review, Sept 20, 2007 through October 30th, excluding the pre-registration/registration period. Please make every effort to have a senior review completed to be assured of proper completion of all degree requirements.

BUSINESS LEADER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (BLDP)
The fall seminar, Business Success, will be taught by BLDP founding professor Dr. Gayle Porter. Dr. Porter’s seminar involves résumé building, learning interviewing skills, and networking with local business leaders and executives who will coach students on how to achieve their own professional success with respect to career choice, personal development plans, and how to get the job you want and to survive it once you're there. The outside speakers either come to campus or students may travel to visit them at their offices or places of business. Past seminar participants of Dr. Porter’s Business Success seminar enthusiastically endorse it saying that it not only was informative and educational but also very interesting and engaging.

CAREER CENTER
On behalf of your Career Center staff, welcome back for the Fall 2007 Semester. The Career Center is located in the lower level of the Campus Center (less than 30 seconds from Starbucks). Whether this is your first semester or last, there are a number of key career programs which may be interest to you this fall.
Career Day, Wed. Oct. 3, 2007, 11 am – 2 pm in the Campus Center student lounge area. Over 50 employers are expected, the majority of which who would like to speak to business related majors about full-time, summer jobs and internship opportunities. More information will be on the Career Center’s web page prior to the event. Attend our Job Fair Success seminar on 9/19 (12:15) at the Career Center.
Resume Blitz Week: Need a resume? Our Resume Blitz Week is the week of Sept. 17th. Have your resume critiqued on the spot at the Career Center during our regular office hours. FACULTY UPDATES
1. We’d like to welcome Professor Ivo Janes and Professor Troy Janssen to our Accounting faculty.
Professor Ivo Jansen is a new professor in the Accounting department. He will be teaching Intro and Intermediate Financial Accounting this year. Before coming to Rutgers, Ivo taught at Georgetown University. He earned his PhD from Indiana University in 2001, and also studied in Chicago and the Netherlands. He likes riding his bicycle, playing soccer, and playing the piano. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his wife (who is from South Jersey) and son. Professor Troy D. Janes comes to Rutgers from The State University of New York at Buffalo. He will be teaching Intermediate Accounting I and Concepts of Auditing this year. His research interests include the role of accounting information in predicting financial distress and the use of accounting information in financial contracting, and his research on behavioral influences in stock markets has been featured in The Economist, Forbes, and The New York Times. Professor Janes’ professional experience includes time as an auditor and real estate consultant at Ernst & Young 2. Here are our Area Coordinators for Fall 07. LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER – Rutgers-Camden Learning Center The Rutgers-Camden Learning Center (RCLC), located in Room 231 of Armitage Hall, would like to congratulate all new students on their acceptance to the Rutgers-Camden School of Business and welcome back to campus all returning students. We provide various forms of academic support, such as course content tutoring, writing assistance and academic coaching to all students free of charge. Students can now go to our website at http://learn.camden.rutgers.edu and make a tutoring appointment for help with most courses through our online scheduler. Students can also make an appointment to meet with our new learning specialist, Timothy Pure, to discuss specific learning strategies to improve their academic performance by calling our main number at 856-225-6442. The RCLC will also offer a series of academic support workshops on topics such as academic goal setting, time management, stress management, note taking, writing skills and learning styles this fall. The workshops will be held on Wednesday afternoons during the free period in Room 105 of Armitage Hall. LIBRARY - The Paul Robeson Library added many new books for business majors this past Spring. Use IRIS – the Rutgers Libraries catalog to find these and many more in the Rutgers University Libraries system.
The Robeson Library’s webpage also provides easy access to Articles/Databases from which you can often quickly get to electronic full-text of the articles themselves. To find these, start on the Robeson Library homepage at http://library.camden.rutgers.edu. Select Articles/Databases, then the second bullet for the Complete List. Under By Subject, choose Business to get a list of the 27 most useful article indexes & databases for business topics.
Subject research guides for business are also available from the library homepage, under More Options, then Rutgers University Libraries Research Guides, then Business. There are 22 of them, many award winning for their content and arrangement.

MINDING YOUR BUSINE$$ - The School of Business Newspaper has a new editor, Rose O’Hanlon. The advisor is Professor John Broussard. Here’s the latest scoop: Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Minding Your Busine$$ is looking for volunteers to either be an editor or contributor. We also are looking into advertising, so anyone interested in that field would have a perfect opportunity to display their skills. All successful business people are published - get started now!!
